3-D Ablating

Process picks up where traditional mechanical machining and molding processes leave off. 3-D ablating removes material on micro-scale parts to create complex geometries for ophthalmic stents, marker bands and other complex micro-components.

Using our welding know-how, the Lightspeed team developed tooling and processing to laser-weld wires and hypotubes with diameters down to 0.003 mm.

Wire Stripping with Assure End Point Detection

Coated material can be challenging to ablate consistently because of the varying thicknesses of the coating as applied. Resonetics developed reel-to-reel wire processing and patented Assure End Point Detection™. This detection is used in process and allows the laser to adjust on the fly based on coating material variance.
