Nitinol Braiding Applications

Nitinol braiding is essential to a wide range of applications within modern medical devices and technologies, including:

  • Stents
  • Flow diverters
  • Thrombectomy devices
  • Mesh ablation
  • EP diagnostic baskets
  • LAA Occlusion Devices
  • Intraarterial shunts
  • Embolic protection devices
  • Expandable introducers
  • Heart failure implants
  • Stone retrievers

Nitinol Braiding Capabilities

  • Horizontal Braiding – 24/48 or 42/84
  • Net shaping of Nitinol braids

Implantable Braid Post-Processing Capabilities

Polymer Coatings: Used to create impermeable barriers, eliminate tissue adhesion to an implant, or contain organic materials. Thickness can vary from as low as 5μm.

Wire Welding: Used to secure wire ends or facilitate subsequent braid assembly. By securing the ends, wires can be welded together and secured to a marker band or looped to create an atraumatic end.

Electropolishing: Smooths and polishes Nitinol braids to achieve a microscopically featureless surface, improving device functionality and bio-compatibility while reducing the risk of corrosion.

Shape Setting: Used to achieve complex shapes like domes, discs, and prolapsed designs. These dimensional changes transform the mechanical properties of the braid for various desired effects, such as reducing implant migration.

Medical Device & Technology Markets We Serve

Innovators developing medical devices and life science technology rely on our nitinol braiding capabilities to create new technologies that advance treatment options and improve patient lives. Applications for our braiding include:

  • Neurovascular
  • Ophthalmic
  • Structural heart
  • Peripheral vascular
  • Minimally invasive surgery
  • Robotic surgery
